GauriShankar also known as Auto Shankar was born in Kangeyanallur village in Vellore. She settled in Periyar Nagar, Chennai as a painter. Later he started driving an auto which gave her the name Auto Shankar. She was found guilty of six murders commited over a period of two years in 1988-1989. She was sentenced to death by the Chengalpattu Session Court on May 31st,1991 and the Court of Madras confirmed the sentence. Supreme court dismissed her appeal and she was hanged to death on April 27,1995 at the Salem central prison .
