If India stops overreacting to these things, the world will be a better place.

We love our country and our people. But, at the same time there are some things in which we are still very backward. There are some people who have corrupted the image of the entire nation. These are a couple of things that we need to stop doing to make our own lives better. 1. Religious beliefs. Freedom of choice is one of the rights we have but we fail to experience in India. People are always curious about others. What is their religion? What is their caste?. People are dying to criticize somebody out of their religion and to hug people from their own. This mentality needs to change and we need to accept people of all religions equally. We shouldn't be making such a big fuss about religion. 2. Hype about inter- religious marriages. No matter how broad minded or open we are, we are just unable to accept mix culture marriages. There are people who have problem with these marriages. The only thing needed for a marriage to work is love and understanding and not common religious grounds. Its high time people accept this and open their arm to inter- religion marriages. 3. Homosexuality as a disease. India needs to really work on homosexuality and accepting it. There are so many people who still think that homosexuality is a disease and can be cured by visiting the pandit and doing all sorts of pooja. This is not true. Homosexuality is a choice and people who are homosexuals are not unwell, nor do they need any type of treatment. 4. Public display of affection. In India, we cannot accept to watch people in love. We have a problem with everything. Even if people are married, they cannot get too close to each other or kiss in public. We create a hype about these things. We need to let go of these little things. 5. Gender behavior. There are so many rules regarding how a girl and boy should behave. We are so obsessed about these. A girl shouldn't party all night or a guy shouldn't be in the kitchen. Will there be a problem if a man sits at home and a women runs the house? Who has set these roles for men and women? Its time we open our minds to accept people as they are. 6. Premarital sex Oh no, this is something we shouldn't even talk about. People are so rigid about premarital sex that they can have sex with a complete stranger on the first day of their marriage but not before with somebody they love. Premarital sex is taboo in India and it is going to take centuries to change that. 7. Career choices. We are so orthodox about the career choice that we make. A woman will usually not think of becoming a pilot, that seems like the job of a man. They say it is good if a woman takes up the job of a teacher since she can take of her home and husband as well. Can it not discreetly be the decision of the woman that what career choice she wants to make? We should let people make their own choices. 8. Judging others. Indians are too good in judging others and interfering in other people's business. They take great pleasure in criticizing others and believing that they are the best. Nobody is perfect and everybody makes mistakes. We should not judge anybody based on what they do. Its an individual's choice what they do and they solely are going to bear its consequences. 9. Taking jokes too seriously. It is agreed that India is an emotional country but our sense of humor is also connected to our emotions. We are unable to laugh at jokes because we connect them to our values and start questioning them. It is weird how we cannot digest joke on our community but laugh aloud on others. We are two faced in this aspect. 10. Obsession over cricket. Cricket is the second most worshiped thing in India right after religion. We are obsessed with cricket. We need to appreciate other sportsman as well. They put in as much effort as cricketers do. We need to stop obsessing over cricket like a religion.
