I agree that lines like "having a baby is my choice" is not correct at all but this is what you expect from someone whom you have been hitting so hard over the years. A person replicates the experiences they have had . If we had provided a better environment for female counterpart to grow we might have seen a different picture . A very simple saying goes like "what is sown is what you have reaped before" You cannot expect something which you have never given. It can only be "US" and never a "I".
